25. “Faraway Land”
(…continued…)
In rush and run
the rosy year slipped away,
& once again
the silent day to part again
came quietly one day,
Niki‘s feet refused to move ahead
leaving Nil alone behind,
Nil’s hands too
could not slip away
from her hand entwined,
Old days returned
to their memories once again,
Their words stuck more and more
before they were begun,
The train blew its whistle
calling her once more,
“Nil said,
‘Don’t go… or I’ll be upset with you, I sware.’”
As the train moved
Niki blew a kiss so shy,
Her shy eyes struck
Nil like an arrow passing by,
Behind the glass
her Niki faded from sight too,
Nil’s steps froze on the platform
not knowing what to do,
The very next moment –
Then his phone lit up …
“Calling Niki” in bright,
Her name bloomed on his face
soft and delight,
Though the cuckoo flew far
to a faraway land,
Her voice returned…
ecoing on the phone, close at hand…
