17. “New Colors”
(…To be continued…)
“She doesn’t need me…”
kept murmuring silently in his mind,
sometimes angry,
sometimes tender,
stealing little glances of every kind.
Niki ordered a coffee
with vanilla-choco ice…
as if sprinkling spice
on Nil’s temper, not once but twice.
To him,
ice looked innocent
& she carefree,
while she savored that icy delight…
just watched her glowing in the light.
As ice going towards Niki slowly,
a shy blush warmed that ice constantly;
& the moment her lips touched the ice,
it melted instantly nice…
One taste, & she froze in surprise,
for even the ice seemed blushed & bright,
as though ice, too,
had caught the color of NIki’s charm
in that moment’s light.
Seeing her like this,
sleep fled far from Nil’s eyes….
had Niki locked the doors of her heart,
leaving no room for his hopes to rise?
His efforts felt so small,
Slipping through like sand’s soft fall.
For nowhere could he see or find,
The gentle pull of Niki on his mind.
The sweet allure
she once had shown,
Now seemed
distant, cold, unknown.
